Behind Soka Hair..

Sara Okamuro is a natural born artist and designer, who has been dressing her loved ones since she could hold scissors.

Her Barbie dolls and babies were the first to have Sara originals that she made from fabric scraps she foraged from her mom. She made quick work with scissors and often tied fabric together with thread before she learned to sew. When she became a mom, Sara fashioned the dreams of her children into Halloween costumes and elaborate dresses for parties and dances.

Sara quit corporate life in 2012 and started the “Sara Johnson Design” clothing line.  Her designs are easily identifiable with their distinctive mix of color and print, and unexpected twists on 1960s and 70s silhouettes. She loves working with vintage fabrics, non-traditional materials, and anything that resembles fur.  Her work as often been noted as “wearable art” or “clothing with a story”.

As with any story, Sara’s has had many twists and turns.  It once seemed natural for Sara to use her name to title her work, but after divorcing, reimagining herself, remarrying with a new name, and really getting to know herself more authentically than ever before, The Soka Collective was born.

This brand combines every dimension of Sara’s creative nature into one brand – Where Art, Fashion, and Beauty Collide
